Whistler Feature: The Wild West Up North

So, continuing on my Whistler journey. One of the most important things when it comes to dining during an adventure packed trip is proximity. As an adventurous tourist with some dining expectations, I want to eat lunch at a place that
a) is close to all the fun activities
b) has fast and good service
c) is reasonably priced
d) has delicious food

We decided to head to Longhorn Saloon and Grill just before our ATV tour in the afternoon. The Longhorn Saloon and Grill has a western vibe to it. Even though the restaurant is situated in the north away from civilization, this restaurant makes you feel like a cowboy from a dusty town.

The best part about Longhorn Saloon and Grill is its proximity to the gondola, where many fun activities, such as mountain biking, sightseeing, and zip-line adventures, start. Since we were sitting outside on their patio, we had the opportunity to watch mountain bikers pull of difficult stunts while we chatted away. A heater also kept us comfortably warm in the relatively cool climate of Whistler. The Longhorn Saloon and Grill definitely has a really good location!

Their food was also quite amazing. Although a little bit pricier than the food in Vancouver (well, of course, Whistler is a tourist destination), it was definitely reasonable considering the quality of food, service, and location.  One of my favourite dishes at Longhorn is their clubhouse sandwich. Yes, you can get this anywhere, but their clubhouse sandwich is extremely tasty! Not only were their ingredients fresh, their multigrain bread is absolutely perfect. A lot of the times when I'm having healthier breads for sandwiches at restaurants, they are quite hard to digest and very rough on the mouth. However, their bread was the complete opposite from what I had tried before. It was smooth and soft, and easy on my stomach! They also perfected toasting my bread. In other restaurants I've been to, the bread is almost always too crispy, almost to the extent of being burnt. Thankfully, Longhorn Saloon and Grill did not make that common mistake; I can actually taste the ingredients in between and enjoy the bread as well. The sandwich also had the right amount of mayonnaise on it, unlike other places where they usually spread either too much or too little sauce on their sandwiches. Overall, this clubhouse sandwich is definitely a must have if you are in need of a quick bite to eat before your next destination!

Can't wait to come back to Longhorn Saloon and Grill again in the winter when the scenery changes from dusty trails to snowy mountains!

Healthy SEA (Salmon, Egg, and Avocado) Sandwich

For health conscious individuals! This week I had the chance to make smoked salmon and scrambled egg sandwich with avocado for lunch. See below for recipe! In a bowl, beat eggs and mix milk and salt and pepper. Pour the egg mixture in the pan, folding the egg mixture in as the egg coagulates. Transfer the egg to a plate once finished. Toast 6 slices of whole wheat bread in a toaster for 2-4 minutes. Cut 2 avocados into 3-4 slices each and set aside. Once bread is toasted to your preference, spread garlic mayo. Add a few slices of smoked salmon and egg until bread is  completely  covered. Finally, add 4 slices of a...

Popbar: Sweet Treats on a Stick

After a nice biking trip around Vancouver, I took the skytrain to Popbar at Metrotown to enjoy a small treat. Popbar is an unique dessert bar that sells frozen treats, from gelato to sorbets, on a stick. With many flavours to choose from, this new dessert place is the place to go on a hot, sunny day. For myself, I got the vanilla pop Gelato dipped in dark chocolate and no toppings (I like my gelato as plain as possible). And, as expected, it was DELICIOUS. The flavour was just right; not too sweet, not too milky, just enough to bring out the taste of vanilla with the crunchiness and bitterness of the dark chocolate fudge. Check out Popbar on your next sunny day out!

Whistler Features: MOOOOOOOO!

On a hot sunny day next to mother nature, one can only imagine relaxing under the trees...eating ice cream! ...At least that was me. While on my trip in Whistler, I had a chance to stop by their specialty ice cream store: Cows. Cows is nothing like your ordinary ice cream shop. It has a central utter theme to it. Nearly EVERYTHING in the shop is Cow related. Take this "Moovenger" shirt for example. I killed myself laughing with all the Cow puns in the store. Since Cows is famous for their ice cream, I decided to try their Oreo Cookie Ice Cream and Cookie Dough Ice Cream. I finally understood why there are always long line ups for ice cream out the door. The ice cream was DELICIOUS! It was soft enough to eat, yet hard enough to retain its perfect spherical shape. I also loved how their ice cream contains just the right amount of Oreo cookies and cookie dough. Many ice cream shops often serve ice cream with too little toppings mixed in. Another great perk of Cows is that ...
