Tasty Salmon Combo

Sorry for being very MIA recently! With the new school year underway and ample of midterms and exams, I have been fairly occupied with lots of deadlines

Starting off a new school year, this dish is a little more technical than my previous dishes. Although the process as a whole is quite easy, this week's dish does require a good level of knife skills.

The Tasty Salmon Combo is inspired by a combination of Tasty tutorials on Facebook with slight modifications. I know their recipes often receive criticism about their nutritional value, but with a slight modification, these recipes can be both healthy and tasty. Again, healthy food does not mean no fats whatsoever; a little bit of oil here and there is totally fine! Just remember to have it in moderation :) Have a taste of this lovely salmon dish tonight!

Hassle-back Potato (Inspired by Tasty's Easy Baked Potato Chips (Hasselback Potato)

Ingredients:
2 Russet Potatoes
2 Teaspoon of Canola Oil
Salt and Pepper

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325F
2. Slice potatoes 3/4 of the way. Leave a 5mm gap in between each slice
3. Brush Canola Oil onto the potatoes and sprinkle a dash of salt and pepper on each potato. Put potatoes on a foiled cookie sheet.
4. Bake for 45 mins

Baked Salmon (Inspired by Tasty's Parchment Baked Salmon 4 Ways)

Ingredients:
1 Salmon Fillet
Salt and Pepper
Dried Dill

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325F
2. Rub salt, pepper, and dried dill onto salmon on both sides
3. Lightly oil both sides and set on pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until cooked thoroughly

Oven Roasted Vegetables

Ingredients:
1 Zucchini, sliced
1 Onion, diced
1 Bag of baby carrots
1 Tomato, sliced
2 Teaspoon of Oil
Salt and Pepper

Instructions:
1. Preheat over to 325F
2. Toss vegetables with oil, salt, and pepper. Spread vegetables on foiled cookie sheet
3. Bake for 30 minutes

TIP: Since all parts of the dish are done at relatively the same time, I would highly recommend putting all dishes onto separate cookie sheets and cook at the same time. Not only will this save you time, it will also save you a few bucks on your electrical bill :)

If you are doing so, I recommend putting the vegetables and salmon on the top rack since they cook much quicker than the potato. The potato can go on the bottom rack to ensure that it is cooked thoroughly.

Enjoy!

Popbar: Sweet Treats on a Stick

After a nice biking trip around Vancouver, I took the skytrain to Popbar at Metrotown to enjoy a small treat. Popbar is an unique dessert bar that sells frozen treats, from gelato to sorbets, on a stick. With many flavours to choose from, this new dessert place is the place to go on a hot, sunny day. For myself, I got the vanilla pop Gelato dipped in dark chocolate and no toppings (I like my gelato as plain as possible). And, as expected, it was DELICIOUS. The flavour was just right; not too sweet, not too milky, just enough to bring out the taste of vanilla with the crunchiness and bitterness of the dark chocolate fudge. Check out Popbar on your next sunny day out!

Glowbal Dinner: Review

For once, the cold is gone and warmth is coming our way in Vancouver! As the weather becomes more ideal for hanging outside and the Spring Semester is coming to an end, friends and family finally have the chance to spend some time together. For myself, I had the opportunity to dine in one of Vancouver's fine restaurants for my mom's birthday. Like most kids, I want to make sure I celebrate my mom's birthday the way she likes. Coming from a family of chefs, my mom loves to enjoy nice relaxing dinners whenever she can, especially when it comes to her birthday. So, I treated her to a dinner in an upscale restaurant in downtown Vancouver as her birthday present. Calamari Glowbal is an upscale dining paradise situated at the heart of downtown Vancouver. Built very recently, Glowbal offers a very modern dining experience and features an exquisite menu with cuisines from around the world. What is stunning about Glowbal goes beyond their menu. Built in the Telus Square Ga...
