Upscale Feeling

Just a few days ago, my mom and I went to a local place for a quick dinner before heading home. We stopped by Aberdeen Centre and happened to stumble upon a nicely lit and upscale dining area in the first floor of the large mall. It happened to be Sugarholic Cafe, an Asian cafe that looks nothing like your typical Hong Kong Style restaurant.

We decided to have their special that night which included a drink, main course, and dessert. We ordered their honey green tea and iced fresh fruits tea for our drinks. To my surprise, both drinks were delicious! Although a little on the sweet side, the honey green tea was so refreshing. The iced fresh fruits tea was also good, however, it was a little disappointing when we found out that the tea was simply fruit infused, not anything special.

Next we had our main course: Seafood Miso Cream Udon and Paella Style Seafood Risotto.   The seafood miso cream udon was quite amazing. Although mixing miso and cream sauce was the last thing I expected that would complement each other, it was fantastic as it created an everlasting taste of goodness in my mouth. The risotto on the other hand was a little bizarre. When it arrived at our table, we smelled a hint of curry in the dish, something that is not expected in a paella style dish. We were also looking for a more savoury and sour taste judging by the colour of the dish, but we were surprised when we discovered that the dish was quite spicy. Although the dish itself looked amazing, its taste turned us off.

Finally we had our desserts. I ordered the Green Tea Lava Cake while my mom ordered the Mango Toast Parfait. Both dishes were very creative, as it combines the popular flavours of East Asia with more Western style dessert choices. Both dishes were not too sweet, which is perfect for those who need to watch out for their sugar intake. My favourite between the two would be the Mango Toast Parfait, because it gave me a different texture with each bite of the dessert. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience!

Try out Sugarholic Cafe if you're in the area!

Whistler Features: MOOOOOOOO!

On a hot sunny day next to mother nature, one can only imagine relaxing under the trees...eating ice cream! ...At least that was me. While on my trip in Whistler, I had a chance to stop by their specialty ice cream store: Cows. Cows is nothing like your ordinary ice cream shop. It has a central utter theme to it. Nearly EVERYTHING in the shop is Cow related. Take this "Moovenger" shirt for example. I killed myself laughing with all the Cow puns in the store. Since Cows is famous for their ice cream, I decided to try their Oreo Cookie Ice Cream and Cookie Dough Ice Cream. I finally understood why there are always long line ups for ice cream out the door. The ice cream was DELICIOUS! It was soft enough to eat, yet hard enough to retain its perfect spherical shape. I also loved how their ice cream contains just the right amount of Oreo cookies and cookie dough. Many ice cream shops often serve ice cream with too little toppings mixed in. Another great perk of Cows is that ...

Glowbal Dinner: Review

For once, the cold is gone and warmth is coming our way in Vancouver! As the weather becomes more ideal for hanging outside and the Spring Semester is coming to an end, friends and family finally have the chance to spend some time together. For myself, I had the opportunity to dine in one of Vancouver's fine restaurants for my mom's birthday. Like most kids, I want to make sure I celebrate my mom's birthday the way she likes. Coming from a family of chefs, my mom loves to enjoy nice relaxing dinners whenever she can, especially when it comes to her birthday. So, I treated her to a dinner in an upscale restaurant in downtown Vancouver as her birthday present. Calamari Glowbal is an upscale dining paradise situated at the heart of downtown Vancouver. Built very recently, Glowbal offers a very modern dining experience and features an exquisite menu with cuisines from around the world. What is stunning about Glowbal goes beyond their menu. Built in the Telus Square Ga...
